Greenhouse Gas Emissions Reporting Program (GHGRP)

Environment and Climate Change Canada’s Greenhouse Gas Emissions Reporting Program (GHGRP) is now accepting greenhouse gas (GHG) reports for the 2015 calendar year via Environment and Climate Change Canada’s Single Window system. Deadline June 1, 2016.

The Single Window system is available at https://ec.ss.ec.gc.ca/.
Do you need to submit a report?
All persons who operate a facility that emitted 50 000 tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent (50 kilotonnes CO2 eq.) or more of GHGs in the 2015 calendar year shall be subject to the reporting requirements set out in the Notice with respect to reporting of greenhouse gases (GHGs) for 2015. GHGRP notices are published annually under the authority of subsection 46(1) of the Canadian Environmental Protection Act (CEPA).
Deadline to submit your GHG report:  June 1, 2016
Facilities reporting after the reporting deadline are in violation of CEPA; such violations will be dealt with under the CEPA Compliance and Enforcement Policy.

If you submitted a GHG report for the year 2014, but have determined that you do not need to file a report for 2015, you must notify Environment and Climate Change Canada by the reporting deadline that you do not meet the reporting criteria. There is an option to submit a Does Not Meet Criteria (DNMC) notification through the online reporting system.
Reporting to the GHGRP:
Updated guidance materials to assist you in reporting to the GHGRP and additional information are available at http://www.ec.gc.ca/ges-ghg/default.asp?lang=En&n=F3E7B38E-1.

These materials include:

  • Technical guidance to assist you in calculating and reporting your GHG emissions (updates include clarification that CO2 emissions from the fermentation of biomass materials do not need to be reported).
  • Step-by-step instructions for the reporting process and how to use Environment and Climate Change Canada’s Single Window system to submit your GHG report.
A series of tutorial videos are available to help guide you through the Single Window system and submit your GHG report to Environment and Climate Change Canada. Please see Tutorial 1 for program information and important clarifications related to certain data quality issues.
