2017ShawnaWShawna Nelson is the Past Chair of the Saskatchewan Chamber of Commerce where she will have spent a total 9 years committed to the Chamber movement.  She has chaired the Human Resource committee and Youth, Education and Training committee.  During that time she has also sat on the Board of Directors for the Greater Saskatoon Chamber of Commerce, spending 17 years of which she has chaired the Future Opportunities and Business Growth committee.  She continues to host Shaken with a Twist event for the Greater Saskatoon Chamber of Commerce, which is a monthly televised networking event which promotes women entrepreneurs in our community.  Most recently she has the privilege of sitting on the 2017/2018 Board for the Canadian Chamber of Commerce representing Saskatchewan on a national platform.

She is the Director of Sales and Marketing at the Sheraton Cavalier and The James Hotel in Saskatoon. A sales and marketing professional with over 25 years of experience in the hotel and hospitality industry, Shawna has worked with many major hotel chains in the market. Through her strategic leadership she has developed engaged and passionate teams, delivering effective results in sales, marketing, and consistently a leader in market share in a competitive and growing marketplace. In her first year, in 2009 the Sheraton Cavalier Sales team was awarded Sales Team of the Year for Franchise Hotels for Starwood Hotels North America and recently for 2017 Sheraton Cavalier Hotel was awarded Hotel of the Year for Marriott Hotels in Canada.  

Shawna has been very involved in giving back to her community through volunteering on various board positions and participating with many organizations which include; Past President of the Saskatoon Women’s Network, Member of the National Convention Advisory Council and the Marketing Council with Tourism Saskatoon, Board of Director on The Princess Shop, Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital of Saskatchewan, Board of Director and incoming Vice Chair of Saskatchewan Jazz Festival, Event Coordinator of North Saskatoon Business Association’s Popcorn and Entrepreneurship Event, Host Committee Volunteer Chair for the Canadian Country Music Week and Awards 2012 and 2017.  Most recently she has been recognized by the Business and Women Professionals of Saskatoon with the 2016 Athena Leadership Award and the North Saskatoon Business Association Member of the Year for 2016.

When she has free time she enjoys relaxing at the family cabin at Candle Lake, playing the odd golf game and enjoys wearing the hat of a “swim mom” as her daughter is a competitive swimmer with the Saskatoon Goldfins and will be representing Saskatchewan in the 2017 Canada Games.
